We warmly invite all people interested in studying Polish to an excellent three-week course at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. Our Polish Language Centre for Foreigners is organizing Summer School of the Polish Language and Culture from 8 to 28 July 2019.

This course is designed both for those who intend to start learning Polish and for those who wish to improve their Polish language skills. Classes are held in small homogenous groups based on language competence. Additional tutorials are available to students who need individual help.

The course comprises the following modules:

1. Classes: The Polish language (60 hrs) at four levels: for beginners, intermediate, upper-intermediate and advanced students.

2. Lectures on Polish history and culture (offered in both Polish and English), 35 hrs. We provide a wide range of subjects:

  • The Polish language
  • Tendencies in Contemporary Polish
  • Contemporary Polish Literature
  • History of Poland
  • History of Polish literature
  • History of Polish culture
  • Polish songs and dances – practical session
  • Cultural history of Polish Jews
  • Political, social and economic changes in Poland after 1989
  • History of Polish Painting
  • History of Polish Film
  • Religion in Poland

Students will also have an opportunity to participate in cultural events and workshops. We provide presentations of Polish films, theatre performances, theatrical workshops, concerts of classical and folk music, national evenings.

All our teachers are university staff qualified in teaching Polish as the second/foreign language and have years of teaching experience. All the classes and lectures are held in the building of our Centre, 18 Weteranów Street, Lublin.

3. The tourist programme: 

A sightseeing tour of Lublin’s Old Town and Castle, the Holy Trinity Chapel, the Martyrdom Museum of Majdanek (the former Nazi concentration camp), the Museum of Lublin Village and the Botanical Garden. A trip to Zamość and Roztocze National Park. Visits to Kozłówka (the Zamoyski Family Museum and a unique collection of social-realistic art), Kazimierz, the town of painters situated by the Vistula River and Nałęczów, the spa resort. A bonfire in the village of Wojciechów.

The participants of the Summer School will be given handbooks, certificates of attendance and transcripts of studies.

We provide accommodation in a modern dormitory, in double rooms with a kitchen and a bathroom. All rooms have access to the Internet. Meals are served three times a day in a student’s cafeteria. Special dietary arrangements are possible for vegetarians. Dormitory and cafeteria are within an easy walking distance of the School and we are only 10 minutes from the Lublin city centre.

The fees for the course total EUR 800 per person. The fees include classes, lectures, tourist programme, meals and accommodation. The fees do not include costs of travelling and a health insurance policy.
